The SJMW Foundation mourns the loss of its long-standing patron Ruth Burkhalter

Ruth Burkhalter passed away on 15 August in her 95th year.

For decades, Ruth Burkhalter generously supported the foundation and its work with a great many contributions. Throughout her life, she cared deeply about giving young musicians opportunities and helping them towards successful careers.

With visible enthusiasm and joy, she attended the competition performances of children and young people at the Entradas and Finals, and repeatedly supported the SJMW’s work for music education with generous contributions.

In Ruth Burkhalter, we have lost someone who time and again gave many children and young people the chance to make music.

The foundation board, the music commission and the office are grateful to her for her many years of support and will honour her memory.
